Native American Television!!!
You are invited to add your thoughts, voice and presence…
This Forum serves to gather input, interest and voices, of Individuals, that share not only an interest but actually a want and need to see Native Americans not only represented but govern their very own Media Outlet via the following methods:
Cable/ Direct TV / SAT/ Public Television/ IPTV and any other Media Relevant Wireless Network
To date there are only sparsely Native American Networks streaming Native American Content within the United States in the mainstream media or public broadcasting venues, meaning there is no channel that any Native American can turn to, on a national scale to view Native American / Indigenous content, may it be a weekly sitcom, film, comedy documentary, news, events you name it…the faces of Native Americans are not openly portrait, other then an occasional Blockbuster or Network Production. Small representation is accumulating online, with networks and websites streaming content thru, YouTube, Mogulus and other methods to at least be somewhat visual…This Forum could collectively combine voices throughout the Internet to link together a strong foundation to let national Networks realize that as we will see this coming April…”WE WILL REMAIN…we are still here…and have more then just a small share to add to the Entertainment Industry
At this very moment there are stations, networks and channels specifically geared and even suited towards other ethnics of this country, such as the African American, Hispanic, Asian and Indian communities. As examples there are Networks such as BET, The Bollywood channel, and more!
Just this past year in November 2008 the lack of national media acknowledgement became once again very clear, as November is Native American Heritage month, and the Friday after the National Thanksgiving Holiday was voted in to be the National Native American Heritage Day…
There was no specialized programming about Native Americans in the Media to commemorate and celebrate the culture, no Native made movies or documentaries, no commercials, no events, no historical placements…nothing…and if so sparsely…mainstream news does not cover anything of importance or value pertaining to Native Americans…
This must change hence Nick White Swan and I designed this network to show, and demonstrates that not only is there a want and lack…but that this needs to not only be addressed but can actually change, if strong numbers show, that we do want this to happen, we have content, material…and def. the passion to see Native American / Indigenous programming, making it onto the national Air & Media waves…
Please give your thoughts and voice to this, by joining this network, by adding your content, by showing the public, that Native Americans, are producing content, are writing scripts, are wonderful entertainers, craftsmen, actors, musicians, film makers and artists so it may be put in front of Media Networks, cable and satellite providers to stimulate them to consider their lack of realizing this Nations first people as an completely ignored and untapped media market, and also to finally give Native Americans and their children something to identify with culturally speaking! Think about it…when is the last time, you clicked through your cable, dish or satellite tv channels and came across a native American family being truthfully portrait within a sitcom…or were exposed to Native American Documentaries… saw a pow wow ( The Gathering of Nations, or Schemutzin just as a broad example both draw thousands of people each year ) featured, or the coverage of the NAMMY”s for that matter?
This lack of presence is apparent, but as with anything, if people are not being made aware things can not nor will they change. The lifestyles and conditions within many Native American Communities depends on the acceptance of media implementation…it is a reasonable fact, that people in general do care about things that they are exposed to visually speaking…things that are not seen, usually are not dealt with, poverty, and self efficiency can only be incorporated into a Change of passage, if we add Native American content into the line up of available network programming…finally giving a voice and equality…a right that needs to be available to All Americans especially it’s first Americans. As Rev. Lewis put it in the Inauguration…Where the red man can get ahead man….
