8,000 DRUMS on March 21
at noon
HELLO, GREETINGS, ANIIN, TANSI, HAN, HAKODA!!
Darlene Courchene was contacted by my friend Gilles Novaks who is a Montagnais Indian from Montreal. He is a Medicine Man and a Healer. He asked me to get as many Tribal people to participate in a worldwide ceremony called the "8,000 Drums". He was contacted by two Huron Clan Grandmothers from up there in Canada and they asked him to help spread the word to all Indians everywhere. It will take place on March 21, 2008 at 12:00 noon . All you need to do is play a drum either alone, or with a group or have the whole Tribe participate. The purpose is to fulfill the OTOMI PROPHECY. The Otomi's are Mayan Olmec and Toltec descendants. The drums will be played so that the Creator will hear us and grant our wishes as we pray for help in the Healing Process of our Mother Earth. …[P]eople are destroying Her and our Mother Earth needs our prayers. Thank you. Ewo-wox-co-dah-wa.

I don't mean any disrespect, I'm just curious. Is the call for 8000 drums that's going aroung the real deal or something to promote a new film about 2012?

According to this web page, the 8000 drum ceremony and fulfillment of the Otomi Prophecy already happened in 2004:
"When this blanket call to the world was sent out in 2004 by the Otomi Nation of People in Mexico, it was picked up by Film Director and Sound Healer, Nikki Williams. With initial seed funding, Nikki and a small crew found themselves in Mexico filming the ceremony. It was the start of an incredible & synchronistic journey.
"On 21st March 2004, the Otomi Prophecy of 8000 Drums was indeed fulfilled."
It comes as part of the "DVD Bonus Features" with the film.

The intent is no doubt a good one, but it's getting harder to tell what's real and what's New Age these days. Maybe it doesn't matter.
Here's a link to the film trailer:

Subject Re: 8000 Drums Message Thanks for posting that! I have a lot of deep respect for genuine indigenous traditions, but not much for flaky New Age invocations of lost tribes, lost continents, and lost extraterrestrials.
I got really suspicious of this posting because of the "prophesy" thing and because of claims that the Otomí are descendants of the Maya. They're not. The Otomí language is from an entirely different family than the Mayan languages. It's not even closely related.

There are lots of good reasons for drumming and healing the environment, but I'd rather do so without promoting New Age "philosophy". One of my own pet peeves is Mayanism:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayanism
The true indigenous traditions of living Mayas are getting swamped with this nonsense. As has been true for a while, New Age gurus and "visionaries" are making big bucks while native people are still struggling just to stay alive and feed their kids. I have a feeling we're on the same page on this issue.
